Citrouilles et les Pirates ( Pumkins & Pirates )

The Famous CHINOISERIE PUMPKIN of Darmariscotta Maine.

Spider Pumpkin on main street in Darmaiscotta Maine.
Backyard PUMPKIN PATCH.
This reminds me of my mother's kitchen. It was much nicer than this, infact gorgeous. The walls were this color, the cabinets much darker. and the counters black. Accessorized with copper. Very Cool !
Antique Pumpkin Pine floors. Often found in old farm houses.
This year, Bill Clark and Buzz Pinkham had a joint effort in growing their giant pumpkins which resulted in two of the top three largest pumpkins in the state of Maine. Clearly, the team effort paid off so they decided to enjoy a day on the ocean…in their pumpkins!Additional photo’s and a couple of video clips are on the next page. Take a peek and see these guys motor around Damariscotta….it was very cool!

I want to move to Damaiscotta but they sure do some nutty things. ( I like it )

I am thinking that they might have entirely too much time on their hands .

But, then again, that's a good thing.

I took this pic 18 years ago of my little ' Punkin' in a pumpkin patch . And she is a cute little pirate too ! : )
Me , heading off to work last Halloween. I am always a Pirate for Halloween.
Halloween is my favorite holiday.

guest bedroom inspiration

: : there's something about rooms with dark walls....having been inspired by the most recent domino issue [see post below] I am seriously considering painting our guest bedroom dark blue. I love the .soot. color by benjamin moore in the kitchen photo above. I like the contrast of dark walls and crisp white trims. and I'd love to add a bohemian feel with a mix of different patterns, gold and silver. I like the rug in the domino pic above. maybe I can even convince .iz. to let me put an open clothes rack in the room to hang my dresses, scarfs and hats on. .iz. could fit some of his suits too *smile*.

darks, lights & jcrew

: : i really enjoyed .domino's. featured article [this month] on the home of j.crew creative director .jenna lyons' home. I particularly enjoy the high contrast between dark and light colors in almost every room. and it really shows that they were selective and chose pieces with care. pieces that feel as if they are part of the apartment.

I was also interested to learn more about j.crew as a brand and company. they have come a long way in recent years. I apparently wasn't the only one who found their clothes "boring and plain" a few years back. whereas now, I can't even look through one of their catalogs without finding a few 'must-have' items [like the pink ruffled shirt in the top corner].

4UDECOR - Santiago Calatrava

new england fall

: : October in Boston this year has been one of the best months of the year. we've had warm weather, sun, crisp air and all the beautiful colors that come with fall. I know this is the favorite season for many. For me, nothing will ever beat summers in Sweden, but fall in New England is in second place and getting better and better for every year.

we spent this past weekend with friends at a house on a river in New Hampshire. and had a lot of fun playing around in the leaves.

spice up a regular bouquet of roses with maple leaves and some greens.

The Greek Key Is The Sign Of The ' Meander '

In Design And Architecture, a 'Meander' is a decorative border constructed from a continuous line, shaped into a repeated motif.
Such a design is also called The Greek Key or Greek Fret.

I think this French piece is to die for, and guess what it has ? That's correct, Greek Key detailing. Everybody used it and always will.
Meanders are common decorative elements in design, and are considered to Neoclassical. This design is as popular today and at anytime in history.

Nice contemporary corbel.

Greek Key application for custom wood flooring.

Beautiful wood molding carved with the Greek Key design.
The Greek Key is on many of the finest antiques as well as reproductions, it is often leafed in gold or antique silver.
Antique silver is my particular favorite. I am drawn to this over and over.
In case you don't know what it is , imagine silver with a very, very light soft pale gold glaze over it , just enough to soften the bright silver It is absolutely dreamy.

It was the most important symbol in Ancient Greece, symbolizing infinity and unity: most ancient Greek temples incorporate the sign of the meander.

Greek vases, especially during their Geometric Period, were likely the genesis for the widespread use of meanders.

The shield of Philip, (602 BC – 640 BC) the second king of Macedonia, was decorated with multiple symbols of the meander .

Let's just say this design literally is 'old as the hills'.

The name "meander" recalls the twisting and turning path of the Maeander River. Where it gets it name.
Not quite a complete Greek Key pattern, but certainly worth a mention.
Sooooo Tasteful.

I have done this on a sofa, it was gorgeous, and elegant.

Crazy Greek Key wallpaper.

You don't have to spend a fortune to have the classic Greek Key Design in your life.

I would love a set of these sheets.

....and towels.

Such a glamorous pooch. xx

It is everywhere.
On buildings , jewelry, cakes, fabrics, furniture, you can stencil it on walls too.

Just look, you will find it.
Because it is there.
