Japanese house designs by Daigo Ishii

Japanese house designs by Daigo Ishii are based on the concept where the architecture should be realized through the relationship with society.

The house in Nigata is located facing a spacious sight of the rice fields. The first floor is designed as a space for enjoying the life with family and friends, while movement of the person is parallel to the scenery.

This Japanese house design includes three huts on top of the 1st floor. They are used as solitary spaces with windows in all four directions, bringing light and wind all day. In this floor, clients can keep away from the daily world, and can get the private world, facing the scenery. This Japanese house design is designed with consideration to the relation of scenery and environment.

“…I want to realize an architecture that reflects and criticizes the society, based on the analysis of the actual society.” says Daigo Ishii, owner of Future-scape Architects in Tokyo, Japan.

Looking at the Villa Kaleidoscope Japanese house design, it seems the exterior walls of the house ground and upper floors are roughly hexagonal in shape with the interior walls laid out in honeycomb design.

The kaleidoscopic house weekend house is built on a slope facing Mt. Asama in Karuizawa, Japan. This Japanese house design is based on the client request to enjoy their holiday in an environment differentiated from their urban lifestyle, by being surrounded by a number of trees.

Some walls in this amazing weekend house, by Cell Space Architects, are covered by mirrors that reflect outside views into the rooms, they also reflect the light and add to the feeling of space and brightness. The inhabitants obtain not only the landscape views from the windows, but also the landscape views through the mirror reflections. As people walk through the building the reflected views give a kaleidoscopic visual effect. The residents can enjoy both real and virtual effects inside the building through the beautiful and ever-changing four seasons.

Japanese architecture & interior design

Traditional Japanese architecture has been highly affected since the Japanese nation decided to open its gates to the rest of the world. Although Japan made efforts to preserve traditional Japanese architecture features, westernmodern architecture has taken its tole and now we see more concrete and steel and flat-roofs terraces in modern Japanese houses.

Japanese houses are usually built on three floors, no cellars or basements. They use wooden floors and sliding doors and windows. Japanese homes have very small bathrooms, which are limited to the bath and shower space. Big cities in Japan are very crowded; therefore, Japanese homes rarely have a garden.

The summer season in Japan is quite rainy and humid. So, in order to keep Japanese homes airy and cool, most Japanese houses are built from thin timber walls and have slanted, slightly curved roofs. That is why Japanese home architecture is more likely to suffer from earthquakes and fires.

Japanese culture is based on aesthetics and the natural environment. Its ideas of balance, harmony, economy and beauty are projected in Japanese art and architecture, for example: traditional Japanese houses, the art of flower arrangement, brush painting and the famous Japanese tea ceremony.

Japanese believe that beauty is expressed through simplicity and its relationship to function. It is most evident in the Japaneseinterior design style . Simple, clean and straight lines usually reflect Japanese interior design. The use of dark-lacquered, low wooden furniture, sea grass mats, silk window treatments and upholstery will give the feeling of an Asian inspired style.
And here’s another tip; why not separate two areas with a beautiful screen- It’s functional and decorative.
